From the Lustau Almacenista range, where small Bodegas individual sherries are bottled and distributed by them. This producer has just 38 casks in the solera, bottled at 12 years old. A deep amber gold colour in the glass, with a smoky aroma of apricot, peat, espresso, caramelised cashews, dates and blood orange. Piercingly dry, but high in gycerol, giving the palate a pleasant broadness and smooth ‘sweetness’. More berry fruits and zest, with pear, quince and candy apple flavours. A lovely mineral tang to the back of the palate with hints of resin, eucalypt and quite a bit of tar. A power-packed, intense and rich wine, but with great clarity and ‘clean’ flavour. Shows a remarkable, long, sweetening finish. 94pts
