From their vineyard in Mangatahi, and the excellent but COVID-defined vintage of 2020. Deep, inky, dark carmine in the glass. Defined by the aromatics, which are punchy with plenty of spice, ripe doris plum and cranberry. There is a pretty floral to the nose as well – pot pourri, with rose petal and flowering herbs. 100% whole bunch and only delicately oaked – it is densely packed, with a dry, intense power. The aromatics seem to accent the flavours here too – with savoury coming ahead of sweet. Tannin is playing a part here, yes; but the dried leaves, white pepper and graphite notes sit snugly alongside those supple, spicy tannins. Balanced acidity and a tremendous line into the back of your palate. 94pts
