Trinity Hill ‘Prison Block’ Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Trinity Hill ‘Prison Block’ Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

A single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from the Gimblett Gravels – great to see a wine that is 100% of this classic varietal. An inkily black-hued purple in the glass – a real presence, with a brooding, dark brilliance. On the nose you get a sense of where this wine is going – charry, mineral and intensely aromatic. Great focus and complexity to the perfume of blackcurrant, lavender, cedar, black doris plum, baguette crumb, balsam, elderberry, thyme and graphite. Right now it is a young wine – destined for a cellaring of a dozen years; but at this early stage, despite being structurally taut and lean, there is a joyous ripeness and a pop and vibrancy of fruit that is exquisite. The tannin is fine but with a density and grip – it will evolve as the tightly coiled core unfolds. Even with a day’s decanting you can see the tension in this wine relax. Lovely fruit, bright acidity, detailed use of oak and a viscose texture – it is all there in a seamless, elegant package. 95pts
