The first vintage of a collaboration between Karl Heinz Johner and Raphael Burki (who made this wine), from a limestone vineyard in Wairarapa. A bright, transparent, ruby colour in the glass. Fresh and alluring aromatics with rosehip, fennel bulb, red cherry, cranberry and a floral pop of violet on the nose. Starting with a light, breezy touch, and a bounce of youthful energy. The ripe red fruits, melt into a chalky savouriness that is well balanced and captivating. Acidity is well judged, elegant and flowing. The tannins are super fine, sitting alongside a nice balsam edge of whole-bunch influence. Complex – finding peaty earth, pepper, liquorice and eastern spices as the wine deepens on its turn towards the finish line. 94pts.
