A barrel-fermented Chardonnay, from Hawke’s Bay. A bright, pale straw colour in the glass, perfumed with grapefruit, brioche, citrus peel, vanilla, nectarine and blanched almond on the nose. Dry, vibrant, approachable – with a focus and flow into the palate. Acidity, toasty oak, and ripe fruit are in a fine balance, but there is concentration and power through the layers of flavours. The sweeter fruit notes are accented by the minerality, and a nuance of softer baking spice as the complexity and texture builds. Lush, long finish. 94pts
