Riesling from the home block vineyard at Bay View in Hawke’s Bay. Very pale straw yellow in the glass with a pure, youthful nose filled with citrus aromas of orange peel, preserved lemon and pomelo, with a sea-breeze, saline, minerality, then a subtle rose petal lift – quite intriguing. Showing more generosity into the palate, with a nod towards a spice of ginger, cardamom and dried pineapple, across a ripeness that heads towards apricot, red apple and baked quince. Dry, light bodied, and the medium acidity gives a nice drive at first, but the wine doesn’t really develop or go anywhere more interesting after the initial sip. I’d give it another go with some tapas and I’d imagine it would be a good foil. 88pts.
