Hawke’s Bay Wine launch writing scholarship

Hawke’s Bay Winegrowers Association launches an inaugural annual writing scholarship, with the aim of supporting emerging local talent and developing independent wine writing & communication.

“Behind every great wine is a story. It starts way back with the geology of deep rivers under gravely soil, follows the early wine growers whose vision pushed deep-rooted vines into the earth and lives on through the history of the people who tend the vineyards through the years. It runs through the whanau that support the winegrowers, from generational passion to passionate seasonal workers. It’s a story of the alchemy that turns fruit into wine. Stories about winegrowing are a rich topic, and they fertilise our Hawke’s Bay terroir.” commented Cristina Sanders, award-winning writer and best-selling author.

The scholarship will be for a duration of 12 months, starting each February when vintage commences in Hawke’s Bay and the industry buzzes. It includes a cash stipend for the recipient, along with access to industry events during the year & mentoring by local industry professionals with behind-the-scenes introductions to the Hawke’s Bay wine growing scene.

Full details of the programme and how to apply can be found on the Hawke’s Bay Wine website – www.hawkesbaywine.co.nz . This year’s applications must be received by 5pm on 15th January 2022. The successful applicant will be notified by 1st February 2022.
