Hand-picked fruit from the Mere Road vineyard in the Gimblett Gravels – the ‘undressed’ label refers to a lack of sulphur (and fining) to this Syrah (one of a range from Stonecroft)
A deep, bold purple in the glass, with seductive and intensely varietal aromas – there is no mistaking this as anything other than Gimblett Gravels Syrah. White pepper, bramble and damson on the nose, with a vibrant violet floral lift. Rich, powerful and concentrated, but with plenty of fruit-forward impact and appeal. Tannins have grip but are supple and ripe. Acidity is moderate, giving balance and length. The palate is plush and drips with dark fruit flavours, underlined with peppery spice and savoury, graphite notes. Minimal oak influence. Although youthful, this is well rounded, open and delicious right now – I see no need to cellar this one. 94pts.
