A Marlborough wine – winner of a silver medal at the NZIWS this year – from a couple of vineyards, and using classic burgundy clones.
Pale straw colour, with an appetising nose of nectarine, chamomile and a floral lift of orange blossom. Notably free of any hints of reductiveness – clean and fresh, with plenty of ripe fruit on the palate. Vibrant, with honeydew, peach, green herbs and nougat flavours layered over a luscious lemon curd texture.
Slightly savoury – roast fennel, sweetcorn and a seam of oyster shell minerality jostle for attention towards the back of the palate; and a gentle seasoning of buttered toast hints at a slice of new oak in the process here. Complex, balanced and elegant – everything is nicely aligned and has plenty of drive towards a long, sweetening finish.
92pts. A Marlborough classic, with the structure for cellaring potential.
