Bald Hills ‘3 Acres’ Pinot Noir 2016

This was my choice for “Pinot Noir Day 2020” OK, I cheated and started it the night before, but will finish it off on the big day.. Another great value Pinot Noir from Bald Hills range – the 3 Acres is a hand-picked wine from Bannockburn in Central Otago.

On the nose are seductive floral notes of violets and lilac, with spices of cardamom, thyme and cloves. A toasty cocoon of oak envelops a flush of red and black fruits, with cherry, raspberry, doris plum and redcurrant offering a lushness on the palate.

Sweet flavours, like baked rhubarb and vanilla custard and rosehip jelly balance with some elements of salinity – quartz minerality; and a tartness like a sharp black tea. Fine tannins and an integrated acidity complete the picture. Focussed and svelte, but with a lovely depth of plump fruit, this offers great value for money at a RRP of $32. 91pts
