A single vineyard wine from pioneering Bendigo person of note – Rudi Bauer; with fruit from their Demeter-certified biodynamic estate on Loop Road.
2018 was a hot, hot year, and this wine is immediately revealed as concentrated – an inky deep burgundy in the glass. Densely packed aromas of red berries, tarragon and souk spice mix upfront.
Into a flow of succulent fruits – tamarillo, cranberry and plums to the fore, but the palate is saturated with a mix of sweet and savoury layers. A tomato leaf and fresh bay note; some resinous, black tea-like intensity, but with a pulse of plush dark cherry running throughout. Svelte, supple tannins and a springy acidity in harmony. Baking spice and nougat creep into the finish, marked with weight, line and persistence.
92pts. Lovely balanced example.
