Obliix Pinot Noir 2023

Obliix Pinot Noir 2023

From this relatively new label, in the Fistonich Family Vineyards stable of wines, comes a Marlborough Pinot Noir. The grapes were grown in the Ballochdale Vineyard, high in the Awatere Valley, Marlborough, that the company acquired in 2023. It has been a good 18 months since I first tried this – and with the ’23 vintage being “a textbook vintage” it is time to have another look.

A shining burgundy-ruby colour in the glass, with vinrant and varietally-specific scents (that could only be Pinot Noir) on the nose. Aromas of blueberry, cherry, red liquorice, dark cocoa, raspberry, cinnamon, rosehip jelly and lovely lift of rose petals. A soft juiciness invites you in, and already there are some earthy, savoury notes developing nicely, balancing well with the plush fruit. A fresh and lively line of acidity, plus some warm oak spiciness – which shows more as you go, and into the finish. Ready to drink now and worth a try at a keen price point. 89pts
