Craggy Range ‘Block 1’ Syrah 2024

A new wine to the Craggy Range line-up – coming from Clone 115 Syrah fruit grown on their Te Muna Road vineyards in Martinborough. A medium-density cardinal/ruby red colour in the glass. The bouquet shows plenty of whole bunch influence with a compelling spike of far eastern spices, woody incense and bright violet florals. There’s also a pop of plum, raspberry and cherry fruit, plus a hint of candy store bubblegum and red liquorice. Dry to taste, with a spine that has a confident note of new barrel toast and spice, and fine, chalky tannin. An integrated acidity accents the fleshy fruit, ushering in a sleek texture that adds breadth to the back of the palate. Some savoury licks of black olive and nori flit across, before the conclusion of a dry finish that has good persistence. 95pts
