A Chardonnay from the old riverbed soils of the Gimblett Gravels in Hawke’s Bay. A vibrant golden green in the glass, with inviting, complex aromas of white peach, lemon, grapefruit, melon, hazelnut, nutmeg and a reductive struck match flintiness. The palate has more subtlety and finesse than the bombastic nose. Some weight and plush fruit, but also a line and length from fresh acidity that keeps the palate from broadening out too much. A pithy note in the back palate is intriguing, bringing a dryness to the lengthy finish. 92pts
