A wine from Tarras – grown on their Bendigo vineyard in Central Otago, in the blazing hot vintage of 2018. A garnet-red colour in the glass. Cherry, plum, raspberry, black pepper, mushroom, thyme and peat appears in the perfume – dense and complex. The spine is a stiff, grainy tannin, with a plush acidity alongside. A touch of savoury shows in flavours of salami, coffee bean, asian spices and roasted vegetable, but the ripe fruit wins through – lasting into a finish that is bold and bright. Drinking well now – no need for further cellaring. 89pts
