Kusuda Pinot Noir 2018

Kusuda Pinot Noir 2018

A Martinborough Pinot Noir from this well-regarded producer whose wines sell out on allocation, so can be very tricky to find and taste. The definition of a ‘cult wine’ (read more here: https://winefolio.co.nz/?p=2508). A light, translucent ruby-purple colour in the glass. The bouquet is reticent and ethereal, needing some time and air to show raspberry, cherry, damson and rosehip fruits, with rose petal and violet florals. Light-bodied but well-balanced, with fine, chalky tannin and a breezy acidity in a tight and narrow palate. Detail of savoury flavours – nori, tapenade and asian spices – crop up, plus a sleek texture appears at the back of the palate. The finish is equally light and doesn’t have much persistence. 88pts
