A white wine from the Waipara Valley in North Canterbury – a region that’s been well-regarded for decades for its riesling. A light silvery-green colour in the glass. The bouquet has clementine, grapefruit, apple, lime and canteloupe, with bountiful floral top notes of jasmine and orange blossom. A natural spritz into the palate (in the German way) with briny acidity leading the charge. Some sweetness has been kept – heading towards ‘medium’ in style – and this generosity is a counterpoint to the acidity, and those crisp fruit flavours. Over time this will settle down and become quite a different proposition, but it drinks well now – energetic and boisterous. 91pts
