Devotus Reserve Pinot Noir 2016

Devotus Reserve Pinot Noir 2016

A wine from a 3-hectare family-run vineyard in Martinborough (on the Martinborough Terrace), growing only Pinot Noir. This was their third vintage, and one of 1068 bottles – sealed under cork. A very dark ruby-purple colour, slightly opaque, in the glass. The perfume speaks of place, with the signature Martinborough Terrace edge of salami and bloody steak married to a peaty forest floor and mushroom savouriness. There’s also black cherry, rosehip, incense, bramble, clove, violet and musk rose on the nose too. A fine balance of crisp acidity and chalky tannin in the medium-weight palate offers a calmness, poise and elegance. Good carry through the palate, with concentration and length. A bump of wet-stone mineral is the only thing that disturbs a very polished, smooth glide into a mile-long finish. 95pts
