Handpicked fruit from the Gimblett Gravels – 53% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon and 23% Cabernet Franc. An inkily black-garnet colour. The perfume is laden with plenty of ripe dark fruits – damson, cherry, bramble and blackcurrant; but also liquorice, bitter chocolate, cedar, cloves, vanilla and pencil lead. The tannin is firm and dry, with a seasoning of toasty oak and the palate also has sufficient acidity to flow through to concentrated and weighty finish. A good local example of ‘Bordeaux style’ winemaking. 92pts
