From the specialist producer of Chardonnay in Hawke’s Bay. A bright, golden colour in the glass, with green tinges to the rim. The perfume is bold and opulent – certainly not a shy style. Peach, lemon, mandarin, grapefruit, pear and spice/herbal notes of vanilla, verbena, nutmeg and ginger. As you might guess from the name, oak is a factor here, providing a warmth and depth to the palate. Generous but well-balanced – the acidity quite bright and linear, but the texture is soft and unctuous. Detail and energy sit side by side, and the finish has great harmony and persistence. 93pts
