A Pinot Noir from Martinborough – the fruit grown in Te Muna valley. A vivid dark ruby red colour in the glass. A vibrant perfume with a little funk and that Martinborough signature of bloody steak and earthiness. Also, black cherry, plum, raspberry, balsam and violet florals. Tannin is quite firm and dusty, providing a spine and contrasting the pulse of acidity and juicy fruit flavours. There is a note of oak and spice, lying in layers with more of that savoury edge that shows in the bouquet – autumn leaves, nori and tapenade come to mind. Finishes dry and with good length. 92pts
