A Sauvignon Blanc from prime vineyard land on Rapaura Road in Marlborough. A translucent pale green-straw colour in the glass. Powerful and complex aromas emerge instantly on opening. Starts with a little reductivity, showing flint and minerality, with wood smoke, passion fruit, grapefruit, lime, red apple, cashew nut and lemon blossom florals. Vibrantly zesty on the palate, with a coiled power and energy. Smoother elements emerge – a textural creaminess and a spicy toast from some barrel ageing. Good length through the palate, carried by a bright acidity and a fine phenolic, tannin drag persists into a dry finish of excellent length. Good cellaring potential here too. 93pts
