An elegant Merlot-dominated blend with Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah (and a little Malbec perhaps?) from vineyards across Hawke’s Bay; but I think it has a definite Gimblett Gravels synergy to it. A deep claret colour, with an opening salvo of cassis, hyssop and pecan-toffee notes. Medium bodied, juicy and lush fruit with flavours of red plum, blackberry and mocha. Fine-grained tannins align nicely with the toasty oak and a plump texture, in a satisfying depth of flavours. There’s a gentle spiciness to the finish, but also sweet and persistant.
