Their top level Chardonnay, from the Reed vineyard in the Lower Waihopai Valley, Marlborough. This vintage won a Platinum Medal and scored 97 points at the Decanter Wine Awards in London. A bright golden straw colour in the glass. Lush and equally golden in the perfume, with peach, hazelnut, popcorn, grapefruit curd, pear and rockmelon. A full-bodied expression follows into the palate, with the ripe fruits meeting a contrasting flinty, granite minerality. The oak is toasty and part of the mix – the spice and vanilla notes suit this unctuous style. A touch of tannin shows in a mealy texture, and there’s good length to the finish. Fine drinking now, no need to cellar this one. 94pts
