A single vineyard wine from Omahu Road, in the Gimblett Gravels region of Hawke’s Bay. A deep ruby-purple colour in the glass. The perfume has plenty of dark red berry and plum fruit, with a contrasting savoury note of earth, black tea and mocha. Into the palate there is a spine of toasty oak and firm, grippy tannin; and the flowing acidity gives the fruit profile a freshness and breadth. A ripe and plush weight grows and is accented by a glossy texture. The finish adds spice and is well-rounded, if slightly sweet. 91pts
