The top level Chardonnay from this producer – hand-picked fruit from mostly the Te Awanga vineyard, with an addition of 2% from Bridge Pa. A bright, translucent golden colour in the glass. Scented with grapefruit, lemon peel, white peach, apple, baguette, nutmeg, fennel and cashew nut. Quite full-bodied and generous, with a smoky spice and toasty oak giving depth. A tight balance between briney, energetic acidity and the lush fruit flavours brings power, weight and focus to the palate. The rich, creamy texture builds nicely, offering a rich finale and lengthy finish. 94pts
