A wine from the Omaka Valley in Marlborough’s Southern Valleys region. Winner of a Gold medal in this year’s NZIWS recently. A light lemon-green colour in the glass. The perfume is bold, with a reductive swathe of struck match at first, followed by ripe fruit flavours of grapefruit, apple, orange peel and peach. Oak is also evident, with vanilla, roast nut and baking spice notes. Full-bodied, with good concentration and boldness that echoes the nose. I liked the dry, phenolic, fruit tannin that pops up mid-palate. Add in some minerality and a balance of smooth texture at the finish, and this has great complexity and length to it. 93pts
