From the Bay of Islands in Northland. A lighter, translucent ruby colour in the glass. The scent starts savoury, with cashew nut, incense smoke, pepper, then damson plum, liquorice and redcurrant. Youthful and light-bodied. There is a bright crunch of cassis and raspberry – concentrated and jube-like. Tart acidity provides the core and line through the palate, with just a whisper of tannin in support. An earthy, smokiness with white pepper and root beer notes also appears towards the finish. 92pts
