A Cabernet Franc from the Noetzli Family Vineyard in Maraekakaho, Hawke’s Bay. A light burgundy red in the glass. More of a Loire-inspired expression than Bordeaux, this has a crunch and levity to the palate that is refreshing and energetic. Could be popped in the fridge and be presented as a chilled red – but for me I like this juicy style at a low room-temperature. Cranberry, red cherry, sarsparilla and orange peel with incense and Campari. Olive leaf, cola and a hint of moss and twig give a savoury edge to the palate, balancing well with that plush red fruit. Tannin and acidity are quietly present, tightening and giving more body to the palate. Drinking well now, but would age well too. 93pts
