From the Rockburn Parkburn Vineyard on the Pisa terrace, this years selection (of nine) by winemaker Malcolm Rees-Francis of the best barrels that express this site in this year. A dark burgundy ruby in the glass, with brooding aromatics of doris plum, fennel, dark purple cherry, five spice and thyme on the nose. An elegant expression with a subtle, pure balance into the palate. A buoyant acidity, integrated oak and ripe, supple tannins form the core. This is a youthful wine and the tense character that is there now will loosen and evolve into something more generous and power-packed. A note of stony minerality leads to a succulent finish of some length. An eloquent, classic, Central Pinot. 94pts
