From the Nelson region – Waimea vineyards were established in the 90s on the Waimea plains. The nose is fresh and bright, with a sappy, herbal note above dark berries and stonefruit and a delicate floral lift of violets. Well-structured, Good acidity keeps everything pumping through, and fans of tannin will get a nice hit from the supple, grippy tannins sitting underneath the fruit. A nice cedar wood and savoury, cured meat pepperiness surround some delicious plum, cassis, bramble and raspberry juice. Turning spicy as it unfolds, with star anise, more pepper and even a hint of tobacco. A lovely, straightforward ready-to-go red for the BBQ. 90pts
