A Waiheke island Bordeaux-blend red, with four varietals contributing. A bloody ruby red in the glass, with a brooding and complex blast of aromatics on the nose. Cherry, pomegranate, bramble and plum, with thyme, bay leaf, lavender and butterscotch. A solid structure with layers of concentrated, voluptuous fruit underpinned by juicy acidity and supple tannins. Develops nicely in the glass, opening up to show more savoury characters of mocha, pepper and peat. Sweetness evolves into dry, and with an earthy minerality. Plenty going on, but it is set over a smooth velvet texture, so you’re not working too hard to ‘get it’! Nice finish, long and with great harmony. 93pts
