A single vineyard Chardonnay from the Escarpment vineyard on Te Muna Road in Martinborough. A medium straw yellow in the glass – showing a little colour from bottle age. The nose has a refined, flinty mineral edge, with the fruit notes coming in underneath. The palate is showing the same – a concentrated power that is delivered through an impressive depth, and with drive and verve, but no great rush. Nectarine, lemon peel, red apple and apricot flavours flow through layers of almond biscuit, tarragon, spice and caramel. The texture is beautifully smooth, with a crème fraiche silkiness. Finishes drier and long. 94pts.
