Leftfield Gisborne Albarino 2021

Leftfield Gisborne Albarino 2021

Winner this week of a shiny Gold medal at NZIWS, Albarino as a varietal is originally from Spain and Portugal, and is now producing some great wines here (gold medal standard, even) in NZ. Pale lemon-green in the glass, with an aromatic nose filled with crisp white-fleshed nectarine, melon, lime, and all things zesty and lively. Acidity isn’t as pronounced as the nose might suggest, but there’s a definite salinity on the palate that is typical of this grape. Dry, fresh and medium-bodied, with a slight phenolic edge, it is a great summery food wine – perfect as an aperitif. 92pts.
