A Hawke’s Bay wine – from the St John estate vineyard in Bridge Pa. Deep ruby colour in the glass, with redcurrant, smoky spices, orange rind, fig, pepper and violet florals on the nose. Dry, with silky tannins and a vibrant acidity. Good depth and weight into the palate, with darker fruit notes developing – blackberry, cherry and a little liquorice. Layered with more savoury flavours of mocha, black olive, cloves and an earthy minerality. Good concentration and balance throughout, into a sweet, delicate finish. Another excellent example of Bridge Pa Syrah. 93pts.
