A wine that just keeps winning – receiving the Trophy for Champion Syrah at both the NZIWS and the Royal Easter Show. Beautifully aromatic, with black doris plum, bramble, white pepper, vanilla and floral notes of violet and lavender. Medium bodied, with a tension and balance between acidity, supple tannin and ripe fruit. The core of the wine is a dense rich harmony of them all. Spice, dark berries, liquorice, framed with a toasty oak and swirled around on a bright line of fresh acidity. Layers of savoury flavours also emerge as the wine develops in your glass – some graphite, and an earthy minerality. Considered amongst the mid-tier Church road range – this Hawke’s Bay stunner will leave many, many wines behind it if they dare to compare. The finish is complex, intruiging and long. 94pts.
