From Hawke’s Bay and the lauded 2013 vintage, comes this Bordeaux blend red. Inkily dark garnet; perfumed with blackcurrant, raspberry, liquorice, chamomile, cinnamon and elderberry. The Merlot shows a deep, plummy, textural filling to the concentrated, dark berry Cabernet that spreads the width and back of the palate. Supple, chewy tannin is apparent and there’s still a vibrant youthful edge, even after eight years in bottle. Spiced with a little pepper, green tea and cardamom and a subtle earthy smokiness that echoes chorizo, cigar box and warm leather. The only downside is a mid-length finish that is succulent and glossy but has minimal carry. 92pts.
