Light ruby colour; highly aromatic – perfumed with violet, raspberry, plum and graphite. Medium–bodied, dry and elegant. Bramble jelly, white cherry, baked pear, redcurrant and liquorice flavours sit ripely on the palate. Spiced lightly with sage, white pepper and green cardamom. Supple tannins and a fine balance to all components – with real character and nuance.
Umami and savoury, yet sweet; earthy and slightly smoky with some vanilla oak influences creeping in at the long, satisying finish. 93pts.
A real dazzler for the money at around $23. Tasted alongside the ‘Tere’ Syrah, and I preferred the aromatic and ‘fragile beauty’ of this version. One of the ‘best buys’ of the year.
