Bright lemon-yellow, greening at the edges. Crisp and fresh citrus is joined with aromas of pear and peach with a smokey flintiness. Concentrated fruit on the palate – nectarine and grapefruit marmalade; but also going riper with melon and fig. Creamy mid-palate and layers of shortbread, danish pastry, accented with roast cashew and an unfolding spiciness. A streak of acidity adds tension, and the wine has width without flabbiness – densely packed – generous but focussed and a great harmony. Finishes smooth and persistant, with just a hint of mineral and pithy drying at the very end.
Gold medal at the NZIWS, a previous Champion Wine of Show (at the Royal Easter Show in ’18), and now onto the Fine Wine of NZ list. A pedigree and delivery that any good Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay would be proud of – one to watch! 92pts
