A Pinot Noir from one of the region’s pioneers in Wanaka, Central Otago. In fact, made from some of the oldest vines in the region. A medium density ruby-purple in the glass. A bouquet of red cherry, plum and mulberry fruits also shows intriguing notes of orange peel, thyme, peppercorn and rose petals. Medium-bodied and fresh to taste – the palate hums with energy. Acidity is well defined and has a lovely interplay with sinewy tannin as you travel through the wine – and this does take you on a journey, with elements revealing themselves slowly as you go. What might be prominent in other wines – oak, savouriness, minerality, spice… flit around the edges and add complexity. The finish has great length and harmony. 96pts
