A white wine from Waiheke Island in the Hauraki Gulf near Auckland. A mid-weight golden-green in the glass – showing some depth of colour with age. The bouquet is quite tropical and bold, with ripe fruit, sweetcorn, vanilla and cashew nut aromas. Richly concentrated with a statement of oak influence that just survives on the right side of over-dominance. Weight and power through the mid-palate, with plush fruit and toasted spice flavours. You can call it old school, and it will have its fans, but for me it lacks some balance and finesse, although you can’t fault its adherence to a style. 88pts
