Paritua Syrah 2014

Paritua Syrah 2014

Having recently done the Top 10 Tasting of Syrah, including a ‘Top 10 over 10’ which has a 2013 vintage of this wine… so super-interesting to try another (and 2014 was also a great year). Also look out for a review of the 2014 ‘Platinum’ Syrah from the same producer this week – it’s been a whole festival of Paritua Syrah!!

A smoky, complex aroma that has plum, blackberry, cherry, liquorice, black pepper, date and musky floral notes. The palate is quite full-bodied, and the age shows no sign of slowing down the bright bounce of acidity. Toasty oak is still a factor too, offering seasoning to the palate rather than overwhelming it. Tannin takes second place to the acidity, but supports the core and there is plenty to see and do around the edges, with orange peel, graphite and spices all showing up as flavour to note. Excellent value for money and still with further cellaring potential. 94pts
