The first edition of a Pinot Noir from the Balvonie ‘Tandem’ vineyard block in Marlborough. A dense, near opaque garnet/burgundy colour. An attractive, floral perfume mixes lilac, orchid, black cherry, redcurrant, rosehip and plum with a savoury note of cigar box. Lively acidity starts the palate off with a wave, followed on its heels with supple but chewy tannin. A touch of middle-eastern spice, liquorice and black olive add savoury layers, before a lengthy, dry and gentle spicy finish. A pretty fine first effort. 93pts
