Rockburn Amber 2024

From the Dick Bunton vineyard in Gibbston, Central Otago. Made from Pinot Gris in an ‘orange wine’ style where the grapes are fermented on skins. A coppery-amber colour in the glass. The aroma has plenty of prickle to it, perfumed with apricot, ginger, grapefruit, rose, lemon peel and apple danish. The palate also bristles along, with pithy tannin and juicy acidity at the core. The tart, fresh juice mingles with the phenolic texture mid-palate, and it is an interesting sweet and sour, textural experience. Expressive, characterful and structured, the impact of the skins over a wine made from this grape without them is quite pronounced. A food-friendly expression, with enough personality to enjoy on its own. 90pts
