It\u2019s no secret that I believe that this label is one of the under-rated gems of our local wines &#8211; the Elspeth series in particular is seriously top value. Reviewed below are the <em><strong>Reserve Chardonnay<\/strong><\/em>, plus three <em><strong>Reserve reds<\/strong><\/em>. With lively, fresh citrus, and peach notes on the nose that flow through to a juicy palate of melon, ripe pear and just a sting of grapefruit with the finely balanced acidity. Spicy and concentrated, with just the right creamy texture not to be cloying. The finish brings in the toasty butterscotch \u2013 long, sweetening and succulent.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-2f8babe elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"2f8babe\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-ae7dd36\" data-id=\"ae7dd36\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-50fd6a5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"50fd6a5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Mills Reef Reserve Syrah 2018<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-a8919ff elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"a8919ff\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-cbaefe5\" data-id=\"cbaefe5\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-695083c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"695083c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Mostly from the Mere Road vineyard in the Gimblett Gravels, seeing 11 months in 26% new oak. A vibrant, deep ruby colour; the aroma of violet, bramble and redcurrant is refined and perfumed. Mid-weighted but lithe and elegant \u2013 whilst retaining some clearly varietal notes of spice and damson, and weaves in a fine acidity and svelte tannins. It\u2019s concentrated but harmonic, and already showing some impressive complexity.\u00a0I like that more of New Zealand\u2019s cooler climate Syrah are treading this route \u2013 well away from the peppered jamminess of Australia, and into a Rhone-like suppleness.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-ae43229 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"ae43229\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-8c0ccf4\" data-id=\"8c0ccf4\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7ff0573 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"7ff0573\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Mills Reef Reserve Cabernet Merlot 2018<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-3d7bfc6 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"3d7bfc6\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-8a4172b\" data-id=\"8a4172b\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5bff091 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5bff091\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Another Gimblett Gravels wine of Bordeaux blend varieties. Deepest red coloured in the glass with a concentrated but lively herbal, blackcurrant and spice notes on the nose. Weighty and muscular through the palate of black doris, cassis and old leather; framed with fine tannins and influences of nutty, savoury oak. Velvet smooth and a vanilla, lingering finish.
