A Barossa Shiraz created from the sub-region of Ebenezer, with old vine material dating from 35 to 120 years old. It is impressive to see a wine at this price point using such old vines, and also to see it made in a brooding \u2018old school\u2019 style that echoes the Barossa heritage without slipping into pastiche. Deep and dark, in the glass and on the nose. Chocolate, pepper and espresso are all present in the perfume, along with the requisite black plum, bramble and kirsch aromas. Confidently full-bodied, rich and spicy. There\u2019s a balance despite (or maybe due to these two core elements) the obvious toastiness of oak and some sinewy tannin – it just works.
