From the Gimblett Gravels sub-region of Hawke\u2019s Bay – a frequent award-winner and a wine I\u2019ve enjoyed over the years. A dense garnet-purple in the glass, with vividly ripe aromas of damson, raspberry, star anise, mocha, red cherry, white pepper and violets. Medium bodied, but bold and concentrated with those plush fruit flavours to the fore. A lovely balance and agility from the acidity, the supple, spicy tannins and some iron-earth savoury minerality that form a tight core, and give lovely line and flow to the palate. There\u2019s plenty going on here – complex and packed with character.
