{"id":6100,"date":"2022-07-18T08:23:39","date_gmt":"2022-07-17T20:23:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/winefolio.co.nz\/?p=6100"},"modified":"2022-07-18T08:23:39","modified_gmt":"2022-07-17T20:23:39","slug":"tincan-cult-crimson-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/winefolio.co.nz\/?p=6100","title":{"rendered":"Tincan \u2018Cult Crimson\u2019 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rather confidently labelled as<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>\u2018How wine should be\u2019 &#8211; this is Pinot Noir from an organic vineyard in Nelson, made with no additions &#8211; zero sulphur, fining or filtration, and hand bottled.<\/p>\n<p>With (an intentional) cloudiness in the glass &#8211; like purple dishwater; but with an intriguing nose of cherry, redcurrant, cola and rosehip. The aromatics here are quite nice &#8211; robust but with a floral lift. Has an immediate \u2018pop\u2019 of bright juicy flavour on the palate, with just that light fog of \u2018natural\u2019 wine character oxidativeness hiding it. It\u2019s like this has to be there for you to know that \u201cit\u2019s natural\u201d before you can pass through to the actual wine underneath. Tannins are supple &#8211; with a tea-like darkness and the acidity is fresh, pushing the flavours through. Boysenberry, sumac and dark chocolate notes sit in between a range of rather delicious savoury elements that bring an earthy, resinous undertow &#8211; I get some carbonic and whole-bunch winemaking influences.<\/p>\n<p>The second go at this was quite pleasant. I have to say the first was not\u2026 at first glance, it\u2019s an almost anti-wine &#8211; feral and wild, more akin to kombucha or fruit juice. When I went back to the bottle later, the cork pulled out with an alarming pop\/fizz.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>But I think this discomfort is part of it. It\u2019s not some sterile, safe, boring, lifeless product. It hums with the life of the vines, and has a depth of character that many wines do not. If you\u2019ve ever tried<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>a relatively young wine direct from the winemaker\u2019s barrels &#8211; that is what this is like &#8211; cloudy, unfiltered and raw.
