It’s excellent news when someone like Hans Herzog Estate – one of the country\u2019s truly artisan wineries – launches something new. Hans is famous for his experimentalist stance, free from commercial considerations, and growing an unconventional range of 25 different grape varieties for age-worthy wines. A first in New Zealand and a homage to Tuscany\u2019s legendary wines like \u2018Tignanello\u2019 and \u2018Solaia\u2019 – the new wine is the \u2018Super Tuscan-inspired\u2019 red blend named \u2018Grandezza\u2019.\u00a0 The \u2018Grandezza\u2019 is a reflection of Hans\u2019 devotion to both his vineyard and his natural winemaking. \u201cGrandezza represents a landmark in the New Zealand wine industry, especially as a producer in Marlborough, a region that accounts for more than 75% of the country\u2019s wine production with 80% planted in the white variety Sauvignon Blanc\u201d says Hans\u2019 wife Therese – who manages the organic estate.<\/p>\n

The 2019 Grandezza (magnificent or stately appearance)<\/em> is a blend of 50% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Cabernet Franc from a purposely tiny yield of 800g per vine for
\nnatural concentration. A wine structured to impress, seriously crafted to perfection, demonstrating its heritage: single vineyard, hand-picked from the lowest yield. Untamed with long skin contact for intricacy and texture, natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts in barrel, no fining, no filtration and seriously matured on its fine lees with 24 months in barrel for purity, depth, and length.
