We asked wine maker <em>Warren Gibson<\/em> for comment on his winning wine, and he had this to say:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-f32d62f elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"f32d62f\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-5b56c24\" data-id=\"5b56c24\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fe3f1d1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"fe3f1d1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><em>\u201c2018 was a very good season in Hawke\u2019s Bay for Chardonnay. It was an early to normal vintage from a picking timing point of view. Ripe fruit was easy to achieve, however, humidity and some wet days at the end of the season made it important to pick before things turned quickly.<\/em><\/p><p><em>The philosophy in making this wine is to use staggered picking dates and a range of fruit profiles combined with hands-off, traditional winemaking to create the building blocks of complexity in the finished wine. Full-bodied and intense with grapefruit, nectarine and crisp pear flavours on the palate. Solid structure \u2013 at the core is the ripe fruit, but layers develop as you sink into the plush texture. There\u2019s elegant biscuity oak, taut acidity giving great line, and seam of chalky mineral. The long lasting finish is harmonious and generous.
